2009 Guest Speaker Dr. Debbie Crews
The Landings Golf Instruction Program hosted special guest speaker Dr. Debbie Crews Ketterling on November 12th & 13th at the Landings Club. Dr. Crews is a sport psychology consultant and prominent golf researcher with an interest in behavioral, cognitive and psychophysiological variables. She has examined brain and heart activity with relationship to attention in golf and has had her research illustrated on Dateline NBC and collaborated with the Mayo Clinic. Her background includes:
-Sport Psychology Consultant for Arizona State University Women's & Men's Golf Teams
-Class A LPGA Teaching & Club Professional Member
-LPGA National Education & Research Board Member
-LPGA National Education Program Instructor
-B.S. from U. of Wisconsin Madison and M.S. / Ph.D. from ASU-Has conducted 25+ years of golf research, solicited over 25 grants and funding donations and presented at over 70 seminars and meetings
-Published in medical journals (Medicine & Science in Sport & Exercise), proceedings (Science & Golf II - IV), applied journals (Scholastic Coach) and the popular press (Golf Magazine, Golf Digest, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal)
-Dateline NBC and Scientific American Frontier have run stories about Dr. Crew's research
-Received the first Science in Golf Award from Golf Magazine in 2001 for research on performance choking
-Has collaborated on Yip studies together with the Mayo Clinic
-Designed and patented a golf putter that aids in alignment, balance and performance
-Developed a golf research program at ASU called GREAT (Golf Research, Education and Training)
-Hosted the Future of Golfers conference in 2001 and is Chair of the World Scientific Congress of Golf Steering Committee
-Founded The Alternative Intervention Research Clinic at ASU in the late 1990's that offers nondrug alternatives for special populations with the most successful program being the Equine Therapy intervention that has grown to serve 350 youths/week
